Additional Information

While attending the Latin American Center, our foreign students are officially Pontificia Universidad Javeriana students. They will have all the benefits of full-time students and have access to all campus facilities and services.

Homestays with Colombian families near campus are suggested by the Latin American Center whit no responsability on the University party. A list of apartments, rooms, or shared housing is also available for rent at nearby neighborhoods.

No previous application is necessary to take our language courses; students can register when they arrive in Bogotá or download the format by clicking here.

REQUIREMENTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS: Turist Visa holders will not be accepted in our courses.  In order to take our courses, it is necessary to have sealed on the candidates’ passport a condition of ‘Visitante Temporal’ when they enter our country. To obtain such condition, the candidates must send previously by mail or fax the following information:
  • Full name (as it appears on passport)
  • Number of passport, city and country where issued
  • Dates of courses the candidate is planning to take
  • Date of entrance in Colombia (date on plane ticket, or other)

With this information, the Latin American Center will send back to the candidates a letter to be shown at the Immigration Office upon arrival in Colombia, for having his / her passport sealed with the ‘Visitante Temporal’ condition. The candidates must make sure the length of his/her condition of “ Temporal Visitante’ in Colombia does cover the length of the course(s) to be taken. Candidates with Diplomat Visa, Diplomat Identification, or Colombian Cédula de Ciudadanía do not need the ‘Visitante temporal’ condition. Holders of any other type of Visa and who are already in Bogotá, must ask for a letter from the University (given by the Latin American Center secretary) and go with it to Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores to ask for a permission to take Spanish courses.

Once in Bogotá, candidates can register at the Latin American Center - Javeriana University, pay the course fee, and take a placement test. They must bring along:

▪  one photograph
▪ I.D. document:  Passport with the ‘Temporal Visitante’ condition, Diplomat Identification,  or ‘Cédula de Ciudadanía’ (two photocopies)The course fee can be paid in cash or with a credit card. It would be advisable not to bring Travelers Checks since they are rather difficult to change in our country.  American dollars are the most convenient currency to bring.
