Main subjects
The points of reflection that will compose the central theme of the Xll meeting of Latin American Social Communication Faculties are the following:
[1] LANGUAGE: INSTITUTIONS OF SECURITY AND SPEECHES OF FEAR
We inhabit diverse scenarios of uncertainty: we live alongside street insecurity and urban violence; we assist to the crisis of politics and the tearing of social and economic rights; we experiment that technical-scientific-industrial civilization is not offering alternatives for a better future. In this context, institutions trying to take possession of security appear, they proliferate the speeches of fear, social tissues are fragile and a precarious emotional stability of human life is abundant. What roll are the political institutions, economic and cultured production, circulation and symbolic consuming of security and fear playing? What roll is performed by the ideologies of security and the speeches of fear in the production of citizenships of uncertainty.
[2] ONE SELF: IDENTITY AND SUBJECTIVITY
The uncertainty inhabits the production of subjectivity in current times. It doesn't just refer to the emancipated subject, protagonist of his life in society, but to a subject produced by life styles, by the politics of the body and by flashes of production of identity. We also live in a globalization of social orders in which the concepts of "nation" and "class" no longer offer the same securities as before to imagine collectivity, and where the figure of the consumer threatens to invade other identities. What place is occupied in this production by the subjectivities the industries of communication and their imperatives to narrate/show/tell stories of human interest? What roll is performed in these reconfigurations of identity the matters related with the body, the life styles and the personal narrative? Which are the ethic, aesthetic and political dimensions at stake?
[3] POLITICS: DYNAMICS OF POWER AND RESISTANCE
The instability in Latin America is the identity of democracy. In this context, politics can be read as a mobile dimension of society, as a struggle for the access and the meaning of reality and a way of social relation in which is characterized by reaching visibility, recognition and legitimacy. Its politics as a tactic and strategic development that also involves subjects and social movements that never stop imagining other possible societies. What roll is performed in these struggles for the sense by information technologies and daily/political/cultural practices of communication? Which power and resistance sectors and which communication dimensions are at stake?
