Abstract
One of the current lines of educational research, which provides valuable insights for understanding the training processes of the subjects, is that of social representation. This article describes the main aspects of the investigation Representations of the environment of undergraduate students in primary education. With the representations, students discriminate in space-time the elements of the environment, establishing connections with social practices. Among other results of the research, a relationship is found between the representations of the environment and trends in environmental education.

Transfer to practice
A set of elements arising from the research described in this article helps us to understand the future professional practice in environmental education of the students participating in this study.
In the representations it is possible to identify elements for teaching environmental education. Representations of the environment is a research line that characterizes the system of reference for practice, since it allows us to understand how individuals give a meaning to the environment and the categories in which they are to classify the new information.
