Ion channel function in Mesenchymal Stem Cells
Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have an important role in regenerative medicine because of their capacity to migrate and differentiate in linages including adipocytes, osteoblast and cardiomyocytes. We are interested in the study of the function of BK and TRP channels in mesenchymal stem cells in order to stablish their role in modulation of MSC’s proliferation, migration and differentiation.
Mechanisms involved in modulation of the BK channel activity by Estrogens
BK channel is involved in regulation of vascular tone and association of beta1 subunit is required for that process. It has been reported the effect of 17 beta-Estradiol (E2) in vascular tone regulation through modulation of BK channel activity, but the associated mechanism it is not known. Our group is interested in the study of the residues involved in the interaction between E2 and BK channel and the mechanism involved in the vascular tone regulation.
Modulation of ion channel activity by natural plant extracts
Molecular mechanism in neuropathic pain includes the activity of ion channel such as TRP channels and voltage-gated potassium channels. We are interested in the study of the effect of molecules from plant extracts in the activity of ion channels.
