Surgido en Colombia a finales de los años 70, el Método Mamá Canguro ha consolidado una revolución silenciosa al brindarles una segunda oportunidad a los bebés prematuros. Así se consolidó la técnica que ha sido acogida por más de 50 países.

Fue en 1978 que el médico colombiano Édgar Rey diseñó el Método Mamá Canguro, una opción sencilla y efectiva para darles una segunda oportunidad a los bebés prematuros y sus madres. Asemejando la bolsa de un canguro, la técnica le brindaba al neonato el calor necesario para superar los momentos críticos de su llegada a la vida gracias al contacto piel a piel con su mamá.

Esa idea, que con el tiempo demostraría ser revolucionaria, se fortaleció gracias al trabajo investigativo de diversos especialistas y tomadores de decisiones, quienes lo convirtieron en una opción real diferente a las máquinas incubadoras. La alta eficacia del método, incluso, se ha visto representada en premios internacionales.
